KUCHING (Sept 27): The highly anticipated closing ceremony of the Para Malaysia Games (Para Sukma) XXI is set to draw around 3,000 attendees, including contingents from all competing states, at Stadium Perpaduan tomorrow. This event is poised to be a significant gathering for athletes, officials, and the public, according to Datu Hii Chang Kee, the Deputy State Secretary (Operations).

In an effort to accommodate the crowd, the public is invited through non-governmental organisations and the Kuching Resident’s Office, with additional invitations extended to community leaders and village chiefs. “Due to space constraints, we will be issuing around 1,200 invitations,” Hii noted in a report from the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (Ukas).

The excitement for the closing ceremony is palpable, especially after the full rehearsal held yesterday, which went smoothly, although Hii mentioned that some aspects still require further attention. “We are committed to ensuring a memorable experience for all attendees,” he stated.

For those unable to attend in person, the ceremony will be broadcast live via TV Sarawak (TVS), Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM), and Ukas, ensuring that everyone can participate in celebrating the achievements of the athletes.

The event will culminate in the announcement of the overall champion of the games, along with awards for the best male and female para athletes. Key figures attending the rehearsal included the Minister of Women, Childhood, and Community Wellbeing Development, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah, who is also the minister-in-charge of the games; her deputies Datuk Mohammad Razi Sitam, the chef de mission for the Sarawak contingent, and Datuk Rosey Yunus. The Federal Youth and Sports Minister, Hannah Yeoh, is expected to officially close the games.
