Sibu Authorities Take Action After Disturbing Footage Emerges
SIBU (June 6): In a concerning turn of events, Sibu police have taken swift action after a viral video surfaced showing an 11-year-old boy driving a car along Jalan Kampung Nyabor.
Summons Issued Under Road Transport Act
Sibu Police Chief, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili, revealed that a summons has been issued under Section 26 (1) B of the Road Transport Act 1987. This summons is directed at the father of the underage driver, citing the offence of allowing a driver to operate a vehicle without a valid licence.
According to Suhaili, the incident came to light on June 5 when a concerned citizen uploaded the video to Facebook, prompting immediate action from law enforcement.
Swift Response and Investigation
“After detecting the video on social media, our team swiftly located the driver and his parents,” stated Suhaili in a press release. “They were promptly brought in for questioning at the Sibu Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division.”
It was later revealed that the young boy behind the wheel is autistic and has a documented medical history at the Psychiatry Specialist Clinic of Sibu Hospital.
Caution Against Speculation
In light of the viral nature of the footage, ACP Zulkipli Suhaili has urged the public to refrain from speculating and trust in the professional handling of the matter by the authorities.
“Speculation can lead to misinformation and unnecessary panic,” warned Suhaili. “Rest assured, the police are thoroughly investigating this incident.”
As the investigation continues, concerns regarding underage driving and parental responsibility have been raised within the community.
