‘Dancing Queen Concert’ in Kuching expects to draw foreign visitors
International Spectacle: A Fusion of Queen and ABBA Hits
KUCHING (June 10): The upcoming ‘Dancing Queen Concert – A Tribute to Queen and ABBA’ slated for June 23 is poised to become a magnet for tourists, promising an electrifying fusion of iconic hits from two legendary bands.
Front Row, the event’s organizing entity, is gearing up to host a spectacle that not only celebrates the timeless music of Queen and ABBA but also aims to invigorate tourism in Kuching and its surrounding regions.
Front Row’s managing director, Ameerah Alsree, expressed optimism regarding the concert’s potential to attract international audiences, building upon the success of previous events. Notably, she highlighted the significant turnout of foreign attendees during the ‘Queen Tribute Concert’ held two years ago, with visitors hailing from Singapore, Brunei Darussalam, and Indonesia.
“Drawing inspiration from the overwhelming response received in the past, we are excited to present another exhilarating show to music enthusiasts in Sarawak,” Alsree affirmed during a press conference held last night.
The star-studded lineup features Killer Queen, led by the acclaimed guitarist Alif Putra, often likened to the virtuosity of Steve Vai. Joining him is the dynamic vocalist Alfred Ayal, renowned as the ‘Freddie Mercury of Indonesia’ for his captivating performances.
Adding to the allure, the ABBA tribute band ABBORN, direct from Europe, will grace the stage, promising a nostalgic journey through the Swedish pop sensations’ greatest hits.
“Queen and ABBA have left an indelible mark on the global music landscape, and this concert serves as a homage to their enduring legacy,” Alsree remarked, emphasizing the scarcity of live performances by these iconic bands in Asia.
Established in 1999, ABBORN brings forth an authentic rendition of ABBA’s repertoire, complete with live music, choreography, and retro attire reminiscent of the disco era. Their debut performance in Asia is poised to captivate audiences with their authentic portrayal of the legendary group.
In line with the spirit of giving back, a portion of ticket proceeds will be dedicated to the Sarawak Heart Foundation, underscoring the concert’s commitment to supporting local charitable initiatives.
Key figures from the tourism sector, including Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Minister Dato Sri Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah, graced the press conference, reaffirming the government’s support for initiatives that promote cultural exchange and tourism development.
Mark your calendars for June 23, as the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching transforms into a haven for music aficionados, showcasing the timeless hits of Queen and ABBA in an unforgettable live experience.
