Significant Progress in School Rebuilding Project

KUCHING (June 12) — The rebuilding works on SK Jalan Haji Baki in Padawan are projected to reach full completion by July. As of now, the construction progress stands at an impressive 91.83 per cent, surpassing the initially scheduled milestone of 90.83 per cent.

Government Commitment Under 11th Malaysia Plan

Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan announced that the project, approved under the 11th Malaysia Plan (11MP), has a budget of RM18.18 million. “I consider the old buildings, with wood structures, are already in a dilapidated state. That’s why the government decided to construct a new school complex for SK Jalan Haji Baki,” he stated during a press conference following a site inspection yesterday. “We hope it can be completed soon,” he added.

New Facilities for Enhanced Learning Environment

The new school complex will feature a range of modern facilities. According to project specifications, the buildings will include:

  • Administration and academic block with 12 classrooms
  • Canteen
  • Sports hall
  • Electricity room
  • Additional blocks for various functions

Project Timeline and Implementation

The Public Works Department (JKR) is the implementing agency for this project. Initially set to be completed within 26 months from its commencement on April 14, 2022, the project is on track to meet this deadline. Upon completion, the old blocks at SK Jalan Haji Baki will be demolished, marking a significant upgrade for the school’s infrastructure.

Broader Educational Development in Sarawak

This project is part of a broader initiative to improve educational facilities in Sarawak. Currently, there are 25 ongoing projects under the Education Ministry in the state. Among these, three projects, including SK Jalan Haji Baki, involve the construction of new buildings and renovations expected to be completed within this year.
