KAJANG: In a brazen afternoon robbery today, four masked assailants stormed a goldsmith shop located in Plaza Metro, Kajang, making off with a substantial amount of jewellery.
According to Deputy Chief of Police, Superintendent Muhamad Nasir Drahman, the incident unfolded around 3:30 pm when the Kajang District Police Headquarters received an emergency call via MERS 999. The caller reported a robbery in progress at a goldsmith shop within Plaza Metro Kajang.
“Preliminary investigations indicate that at approximately 3:17 pm, four male suspects dressed as security guards, wearing masks and dark gloves, forcibly entered the shop. They proceeded to smash the glass display cases using iron hammers and swiftly seized jewellery items,” stated Muhamad Nasir.
The perpetrators, armed with two pistols and a rifle, discharged one round into a wall during the heist before escaping through the building’s parking facilities.
The total value of the stolen jewellery is currently being assessed as authorities continue their investigation. Muhamad Nasir emphasized that the police are reviewing CCTV footage from the vicinity and interviewing witnesses to gather crucial information.
The case has been filed under Section 3 of the Firearms Act 1971 (Increased Penalties), which mandates severe consequences including the death penalty upon conviction, irrespective of any injuries inflicted.
