SIBU (Aug 1): In a significant move to improve infrastructure and living conditions, the Premier of Sarawak has approved a substantial fund of RM200,000. This allocation is designated for upgrading facilities at Jalan Kiong Kiong, Jalan Chew Kung, Rumah Peter Tinggom, and Rumah Everly Bajut. This announcement was made by Kevin Lau, the leader of the Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) Bawang Assan Community Development Committee.

Allocation of Funds for Immediate Upgrades

Purpose of the Upgrades

The RM200,000 funding is derived from the Special Rural Transformation Programme (RTP) fund, aimed at enhancing the rural infrastructure. The Sibu Drainage and Irrigation Department (DID) will be spearheading the execution of these projects, which are set to commence without delay.

Specific Upgrades and Their Impact

Installation of Gabion Retaining Walls

The installation of gabion retaining walls at Jalan Kiong Kiong and Jalan Chew Kung is one of the primary projects. These retaining walls are crucial in preventing soil erosion, which has been a persistent issue causing inconvenience to the residents. The walls will stabilize the soil, ensuring safer and cleaner roads.

Upgrading Wooden Walkway at Rumah Peter Tinggom

At Rumah Peter Tinggom, the wooden walkway will undergo significant upgrades. This enhancement aims to provide a safer and more durable pathway for the residents, especially during the rainy season when the current walkway becomes slippery and hazardous.

Enhancing Wooden Jetty at Rumah Everly Bajut

The wooden jetty at Rumah Everly Bajut is also set for an upgrade. This improvement will facilitate better access for the residents, particularly for those relying on the jetty for daily activities and transportation.

Community Feedback and Future Prospects

Resident Requests and Government Response

Kevin Lau highlighted the collaborative efforts leading to these upgrades. He mentioned that during regular visits, numerous residents had expressed their need for these specific improvements. With the support of Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, the proposal was effectively presented to the Premier of Sarawak, resulting in the approval of the necessary funds in April this year.

Commitment to Continued Service

Lau assured the community of his dedication to serving the residents of Bawang Assan. He emphasized that these upgrades are part of a broader commitment to improving the living environment and infrastructure in the area. He also expressed hope that the completed projects will significantly enhance the daily lives of the local populace.

Ensuring Sustainable Development

The SUPP Bawang Assan Community Development Committee, under Lau’s leadership, is focused on sustainable development. By addressing critical infrastructure needs, the committee aims to foster a more resilient and prosperous community. The immediate implementation of these projects reflects a proactive approach to development, ensuring that the benefits of the upgrades are realized without unnecessary delays.

Conclusion

The approval of RM200,000 for facility upgrades in Bawang Assan marks a significant step towards enhancing the quality of life for its residents. With projects such as the installation of gabion retaining walls, the upgrading of walkways, and the enhancement of jetties, the community is set to witness substantial improvements. Kevin Lau and the SUPP Bawang Assan Community Development Committee remain committed to continuous service and development, ensuring that Bawang Assan progresses steadily towards a better future.
