Minister’s Presence Adds Glamor to the Event

The charity run was further enlivened by the presence of the Minister of Women, Children, and Community Welfare, Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah. Her participation highlighted the government’s support for community-driven initiatives and underscored the importance of empowering single mothers in Sarawak.

In a statement, the Ministry of Women, Children, and Community Welfare (KPWK) expressed their delight at the event’s success and reaffirmed their commitment to supporting PITSA’s ongoing efforts to uplift single mothers and their families.

Two Categories, One Purpose

10km and 3km Run Events

PITSA’s ‘Charity Fun Run 2024’ featured two main categories: the challenging 10-kilometer (km) race and a more relaxed 3km fun run, catering to runners of different fitness levels. According to KPWK’s statement, 60 participants took on the 10km challenge, while the remaining 390 opted for the 3km event, enjoying a leisurely run through Kuching’s scenic routes.

“The charity run was not just about competition; it was about community spirit,” said a representative from KPWK. “Participants were enthusiastic, showing their support not just through their presence but also by contributing to a meaningful cause.”

Fundraising for a Better Tomorrow

Supporting Land Maintenance and PITSA Activities

The primary goal of the Charity Fun Run 2024 was to raise funds for PITSA’s various needs, particularly for the maintenance of land in Lot 8909 (Parent Lot 8774), Block 14, Salak Land District. The funds will be used to cover essential costs such as land cleaning and the construction of retaining walls, crucial for the safety and usability of the property.

Additionally, the proceeds will boost PITSA’s savings, ensuring that the association can continue to provide vital support and organize activities throughout the year. These activities are pivotal in helping single mothers in Sarawak achieve financial independence and a better quality of life.

“Every step taken today was a step towards a brighter future for the single mothers in our community,” said PITSA President Salmah Ibrahim, who was also present at the event. “We are grateful for the overwhelming support from the public, sponsors, and participants who believe in our mission.”

Kuching Happy Runners Club: Guardians of the Run

The Kuching Happy Runners Club played an essential role in marshalling the event, ensuring the smooth flow of the run from start to finish. Their dedication to maintaining the safety of all participants along the route was highly commendable. The club’s presence highlighted Kuching’s vibrant running culture and contributed significantly to the overall success of the event.

“We thank the Kuching Happy Runners Club for their tireless efforts,” said Dayang Lenora Awang Bujang, the managing chairman of the Charity Fun Run 2024. “Their commitment to safety and organization was crucial, and they truly embodied the spirit of community involvement.”

Building Community Spirit

A Day of Fun, Fitness, and Giving Back

The event was more than just a run; it was a celebration of community spirit. Families, friends, and fitness enthusiasts joined hands, demonstrating the power of collective action. The atmosphere was festive, with colorful outfits, cheerful smiles, and the sound of feet pounding against the pavement, symbolizing unity and hope.

Managing Chairman of Charity Fun Run 2024, Dayang Lenora Awang Bujang, praised the participants and volunteers for their dedication. “Organizing such an event is no small feat, but the support we received made everything worthwhile,” she said. “We look forward to making next year’s run even bigger and better.”

Moving Forward: The Future of PITSA’s Initiatives

PITSA plans to continue its fundraising efforts to support ongoing and future projects. The association has long been a beacon of hope for single mothers in Sarawak, providing them with resources, training, and opportunities to improve their lives.

With the success of the Charity Fun Run 2024, PITSA is hopeful that more members of the community will come forward to support their cause, whether through participation, sponsorship, or volunteer work.

Focus on Community Growth

Sarawak’s support for such initiatives reflects a growing trend of community-driven events aimed at fostering inclusivity and support for marginalized groups. By participating in these events, Sarawakians are not just running for fitness—they are running for change, demonstrating that when a community comes together, it can achieve remarkable things.
