Sarawak’s Largest Property Expo is Back from September 6-8 at BCCK
KUCHING (September 4, 2024) – The highly anticipated Sarawak Housing Real Estate Developers’ Association (Sheda) Property Expo is set to make a grand return this year from September 6 to 8 at the Borneo Convention Centre Kuching (BCCK). Known as Sarawak’s largest property expo, this annual event brings together property developers, investors, and potential homebuyers under one roof, offering a dynamic platform for networking and business opportunities.
A Booming Success: Last Year’s Sales and Expectations for 2024
Over RM34 Million in Sales Generated in 2023
During a press conference held at Sheda’s Kuching headquarters, the Expo Organising Chairman, Steve Tan Chen Hang, highlighted the immense success of the previous year’s event. The 2023 edition saw over RM34 million in sales value generated within just three days, with 60% of the properties sold priced at RM500,000 and below. This impressive turnout has set the stage for an even more successful event this year.
Encouraging Developers to Seize the Opportunity
Tan encouraged developers to leverage this three-day event to generate sales leads and connect with prospective buyers. “Sheda Property Expo 2024 is open for registration, and we have just launched the sale of booths for this event. There are 90 booth spaces available, and we urge developers to seize this opportunity to showcase their projects,” said Tan.
A One-Stop Platform for Property Developers and More
Expanding Beyond Property: A Showcase for Lifestyle Enhancements
The Sheda Property Expo 2024 is not just limited to property developers. Tan extended an invitation to non-property developers to participate, particularly those offering products or services that enhance the lifestyle of buyers, such as home furnishings, smart home technologies, and other related trades.
“Sheda Property Expo 2024 provides a one-stop platform for property developers and building-related trades to exhibit their local or overseas development projects and products. We are especially excited to include exhibitors that offer a comprehensive and enriching living experience,” Tan elaborated.
Early Bird Discounts and Booth Registration Details
Tan also encouraged potential exhibitors to register early to secure their preferred booth locations and take advantage of early bird discounts, which are available until June 14. “Early registration not only guarantees a prime spot but also allows exhibitors to benefit from cost savings,” he added.
Addressing Market Challenges: SST and Home Ownership Initiatives
The Impact of SST on Property Prices
When asked about the impact of the eight per cent Sales and Service Tax (SST) on property prices, Tan expressed optimism. He acknowledged the challenges posed by the SST but noted the positive outlook from the finance industry, particularly for the second half of the year.
“SST is something we cannot avoid. However, I believe that initiatives like the Housing Deposit and Repayment Assistance Scheme (HDRAS) will help ease the burden on buyers,” said Tan.
Supporting Sarawakians: Initiatives to Ease Home Ownership
Tan reiterated Sheda’s commitment to facilitating home ownership, particularly for Sarawakians. He highlighted the RM10,000 deposit assistance provided by the Sarawak government under HDRAS, which aims to help first-time homebuyers. “We are committed to connecting Sarawakians with opportunities to own their first homes, especially within the affordable price range,” he said.
Exciting Line-Up of Activities at the Expo
Talks, Campaigns, and Prizes Await Attendees
The Sheda Property Expo 2024 promises an exciting array of activities, including informative talks, lucky draws, and the popular ‘Buy & Win’ campaign, catering to a wide range of demographics and interests. “We have a fantastic line-up of activities to engage our visitors, making the expo not just a marketplace but a community event,” Tan shared.
The Future of Home Ownership in Sarawak
Expanding HDRAS Benefits to All Housing Projects
Tan also expressed his hope that the HDRAS initiative could be extended to all housing development projects in Sarawak, with an increase in the deposit amount to RM30,000 or 10% of the house purchase price, whichever is lower. “This could significantly boost the ability of Sarawakians to own homes in locations of their choice,” he added.
The Path Forward: Encouraging Genuine Buyers
With a robust market response and increasing initiatives to support home ownership, the Sheda Property Expo 2024 is set to be a pivotal event for the property sector in Sarawak. “The encouraging sales transactions indicate that there are still many genuine buyers looking for homes, particularly in the residential market,” Tan concluded.
