The Kuala Lumpur Standard Chartered Marathon 2024 took place over the weekend on October 5-6, attracting a remarkable crowd of 42,000 participants from both Malaysia and around the globe. This year’s 16th edition, held at Dataran Merdeka, showcased an impressive turnout, featuring approximately 2,500 international runners representing 45 countries.

In the Malaysian Men’s Open category, Muhaizar Mohamad triumphed, clinching his sixth title with a time of 2 hours, 41 minutes, and 17 seconds. On the women’s side, Noor Amelia Musa emerged victorious in the Malaysian Women’s Open, finishing with a remarkable time of 3:09:44. The event saw Kenyan runners dominate the international categories, with Vincent Kiprono winning the Men’s Open in 2:18:16, followed closely by his fellow compatriots, while Beatrice Jelagat Cherop secured the Women’s Open title with a time of 2:33:45.

The event was flagged off by Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh and featured prominent participants such as Investment Minister Tengku Zafrul Aziz and Natural Resources Minister Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad in the half-marathon segment. This year’s marathon continued its tradition of inclusivity and community engagement, highlighting the importance of fitness and camaraderie among runners of all ages and skill levels.
