From 5th to 8th November 2024, the renowned Hong San Si Temple on Wayang Street will come alive as it welcomes visitors for the captivating “Borrow & Return Money” ritual, also known as 借银还银, alongside a lineup of traditional Chinese festivities.
A Tradition of Blessings and Prosperity
Kapitan Tan Kun Gee warmly extends an invitation to the public, encouraging all to participate in this meaningful ritual. Originating from ancient Chinese practices, the Borrow & Return Money ritual is designed to invoke blessings of wealth and prosperity for those who partake. For a minimum of RM5, visitors can engage in this ritual to symbolically “borrow” prosperity, with the understanding that returning it during the event helps circulate blessings.
Adding to the significance, this year’s event welcomes a highly esteemed guest, the divine figure from China, Guang Zhe Zhun Wan Seng Ong Seng Ma, who will visit Kuching to bless the community. The ritual is open daily from 9:00 AM to 10:00 PM, providing ample opportunity for attendees to experience its spiritual benefits.
Evening Festivities: Lion Dances, Teochew Drama, and More
Each night from 7:00 PM to 11:00 PM, visitors will be treated to a vibrant array of cultural performances. The event will feature traditional Teochew drama shows, captivating cultural dance routines, and the thrilling sights and sounds of lion and dragon dances. With three registered Lion Dance groups performing each night, spectators can expect a spectacular display of skill and artistry.
