KUCHING, Nov 30 – A morning landslide in Tabuan Height today has threatened four homes near a riverbank, prompting swift action from the Tabuan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP).
Operations Commander Chaplin Wan revealed that his team received an emergency call at 9:16 am regarding the incident. A team of eight firefighters was promptly dispatched to the site to assess and address the situation.
“Upon arrival, we found that a landslide had occurred on the riverbank, causing the fence of houses in the area to collapse. The landslide impacted four two-storey homes, with three experiencing damage only to their fences, while one house sustained damage to the kitchen area, which was connected to the fence,” he explained.
Fortunately, the structural integrity of the houses remains unaffected, and no injuries or casualties were reported.
To mitigate further risks, the fire department carried out a detailed assessment and monitoring of the area. “We have advised the residents to cover the collapsed area with a canvas to prevent water damage during rain. Additionally, safety barriers have been installed at the location to prevent access to the danger zone,” said Chaplin.
Residents in the affected area expressed concern about potential future landslides due to ongoing rains. Authorities have assured them that all necessary safety measures are being implemented.
As Kuching experiences more rainy days ahead, the incident serves as a stark reminder of the need for vigilance in landslide-prone areas. Residents are urged to report any signs of soil erosion or cracks near their homes to the relevant authorities immediately.
