Sarawak Sets MBOR Record for Largest Bead Craft Event

KUCHING (Dec 1): Sarawak has etched its name in the Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) with an incredible achievement: the largest bead craft-making event in the nation.

An impressive total of 274 participants, including locals, international craft enthusiasts, and members of the Sarawak Craft Council (SCC), gathered at The Spring Shopping Mall to take part in the record-breaking event.

MBOR Achievement Recognised
The historic moment was officially acknowledged by MBOR representative Siti Hajar Johor after participants diligently crafted intricate bead designs for 15 minutes.

Deputy Minister of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts Datuk Snowdan Lawan and SCC manager Suriya Charles Buas were present to witness this milestone achievement.

A Tribute to Sarawak’s Cultural Heritage
In his speech, Snowdan expressed heartfelt gratitude to all participants, volunteers, and sponsors who contributed to the success of the event.

“I encourage everyone to continue innovating and passing on their skills to ensure the legacy of bead crafting thrives. Sarawak remains committed to preserving its unique Bornean cultural heritage and fostering global recognition,” he said.

Snowdan praised SCC for their commitment to organising the event, which showcases Sarawak’s creative talents and cultural heritage.

“Engaging younger generations in traditional crafts is crucial for preserving our cultural heritage. I appreciate the participation of families and schools in ensuring the continuity of this beautiful craft,” he added.

Part of a Bigger Celebration
The event is part of the ongoing BorneoCraft Global Expo and Conference 2024, which kicked off on Nov 27 and concluded today. The expo celebrates traditional crafts while inspiring new generations to embrace cultural heritage through creative avenues.
