KUCHING, Dec 6 — A devastating fire broke out at a poultry farm in Jalan Matang early this morning, resulting in the loss of 10,092 chickens.
The Sarawak Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) revealed that they received an emergency call regarding the blaze at 3:42 am. Firefighters from Bomba Petra Jaya, with assistance from Bomba Batu Lintang, were swiftly deployed to the scene.
According to the operations commander, the fire completely destroyed one block of the chicken coop. Despite the intensity of the flames, the firefighting teams managed to bring the situation under control by 4:42 am.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and no injuries to workers or other individuals were reported. The poultry farm, which housed thousands of chickens, sustained significant losses as the affected block was engulfed by the blaze.
Locals in the Jalan Matang area expressed concern over the incident, as such fires can have ripple effects on the local poultry supply chain. Authorities are urging farm operators and businesses to conduct regular safety inspections to prevent similar incidents in the future.
This tragic event highlights the importance of fire safety in agricultural operations, where large-scale losses can occur in a matter of minutes. The swift action of Bomba prevented the fire from spreading further, averting potentially greater damage to the farm and nearby properties.
Updates on the investigation and potential support for the affected farm are expected in the coming days.
