Samarahan’s First Christmas Parade Since 2018 Spreads Joy and Peace
KUCHING (Dec 10): Samarahan lit up with festive cheer last Saturday evening as the Sarawak Association of Churches Samarahan Branch (ACSSB), in collaboration with the Methodist Church, hosted the much-anticipated Christmas Parade and Celebration themed ‘Peace Be With You.’
Marking the first public Christmas parade since 2018, the event began at St Francis’ Church Kota Samarahan, passed through vibrant residential areas, and concluded with a celebration at Farley Supermarket Kota Samarahan.
According to a statement by ACSSB, the event aimed to spread the joy and peace of Christmas among the local community. “The Christmas Parade and Celebration took place with great fanfare. This is the first Christmas parade event since 2018, and the public celebration attracted many local residents,” said ACSSB.
Approximately 700 church members from various denominations under ACSSB enthusiastically joined the parade, creating a lively procession that captivated onlookers.
Festive Performances and Community Spirit
The celebration continued outside Farley Supermarket, where a vibrant stage hosted an array of performances, including choir singing, cultural dance shows, and a blessed draw.
These programmes, presented by different denominational churches, drew around 800 spectators, further enhancing the festive mood.
Revd Steward Damat, the preacher from the Sarawak Iban Annual Conference Methodist Church, delivered an inspiring sermon on the transformative love of Jesus Christ.
“This event was not only a religious celebration but also a symbol of multiculturalism and religious harmony, uniting the Samarahan community,” the organisers highlighted.
A Community United in Celebration
The Christmas Parade and Celebration successfully brought together people of different faiths and backgrounds, embodying the spirit of unity and harmony. Samarahan’s streets and hearts were filled with joy, reminding everyone of the true essence of the season.
