MIRI, Dec 12: A daring robbery took place at a mini mart near Ngu’s junction in Batu Niah on Sunday, where a man armed with a parang escaped with RM1,000.
Miri police chief ACP Alexson Naga Chabu confirmed that the incident was reported the same day. In a statement, he shared that the suspect approached the cashier with the weapon and demanded money.
“The cashier complied, handing over RM1,000. Thankfully, the victim was unharmed,” Alexson said.
The police chief also revealed that the suspect’s face was clearly captured by the store’s closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras. Authorities have identified the perpetrator as a 31-year-old local man and are actively tracking him.
The case is being investigated under Section 392 of the Penal Code, which deals with robbery and carries a penalty of imprisonment and fines upon conviction.
ACP Alexson urged members of the public who may have information about the case to come forward. “Anyone with relevant details is encouraged to contact the Miri police at 085-433730,” he said.
