Pedestrian Killed in Suspected Hit-and-Run on Jalan Kuching-Serian

KUCHING (Dec 19): A tragic suspected hit-and-run incident at KM45 Jalan Kuching-Serian claimed the life of a pedestrian late last night.

Serian police chief DSP Neil Beginda confirmed that the victim, a man in his 60s, suffered fatal head injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

“Preliminary investigations indicate the accident occurred around 11.20pm on Wednesday. The victim was found lying on the metal guardrail along the right side of the road heading towards Serian,” Neil said.

Police found fragments of a vehicle’s side mirror near the scene, suggesting it might have belonged to the vehicle that struck the victim.

“The victim was wearing dark blue jeans and an orange, black, and white striped shirt. He is believed to be a Malaysian citizen, based on a BCG vaccination mark on his left arm,” added Neil.

The man, who was approximately 160cm tall and weighed less than 50kg, had a tan complexion. However, his identity remains unknown.

Authorities have classified the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, which covers dangerous driving leading to death.

Police are urging members of the public to come forward if they recognize the victim or have any information regarding the incident. Those with details are encouraged to contact investigating officer ASP Keny Charles at 082-874201 or visit the nearest police station.

This unfortunate accident serves as a stark reminder of the importance of road safety, especially along highways during late hours.
