KUCHING – In a gesture of goodwill and interfaith unity, the Sarawak Islamic Information Centre (SIIC) and the Sarawak Islamic Council visited two prominent Christian leaders in Kuching ahead of the Christmas season.
The delegation, led by SIIC’s acting CEO, Tazudin Mohtar, included 10 officers from both organisations. They paid courtesy visits to Danald Jute, the Bishop of the Anglican Church in Sarawak and Brunei, and Simon Poh, the Roman Catholic Archbishop in Kuching.
During the visit, gifts were exchanged as a symbol of goodwill and respect between the religious communities. Tazudin emphasised the importance of such engagements in maintaining Sarawak’s unique spirit of unity and harmony, despite its multicultural, multiracial, and multireligious society.
“Sarawak continues to stand as an example of harmony, where people from diverse backgrounds live in peace and mutual respect,” Tazudin said.
He highlighted the Sarawak tradition of “open houses” during festive periods, which serve as platforms for fostering closer relationships and understanding among people of different faiths.
“This concept allows Sarawakians to build stronger bonds and reconnect with one another during the festive season,” he added.
This visit underscores Sarawak’s long-standing tradition of interfaith respect and collaboration, which remains a cornerstone of the state’s societal fabric.
