As dawn broke over Kuching, the city was bathed in a soft, golden light, creating a magical backdrop for the event. The starting line buzzed with energy and anticipation as 3,500 runners from 13 countries gathered to take part in the race. The atmosphere was electric, a blend of excitement, nerves, and camaraderie.

At the sound of the starting gun, the runners surged forward, embarking on a 21-kilometer journey through the heart of Kuching. The course, meticulously planned, offered a breathtaking mix of urban and natural landscapes. Kenyan Athletes Dominate the Field

The competition was fierce, particularly in the open categories, where Kenyan athletes showcased their extraordinary talent and endurance.

Men’s Open Category

  • First Place: Jephet Rono – 1 hour, 16 minutes, 53 seconds (RM1,500 and a trophy)
  • Second Place: Emmanuel Kipronoh – 1 hour, 16 minutes, 54 seconds (RM1,200 and a trophy)
  • Third Place: Haarullah Safri (Malaysia) – (RM1,000 and a trophy)

Jephet Rono narrowly edged out his compatriot Emmanuel Kipronoh by just one second, highlighting the intense competition and high level of performance.

Women’s Open Category

  • First Place: Chepngetich Langat – 1 hour, 29 minutes, 47 seconds (RM1,500 and a trophy)
  • Second Place: Caroline Cherono (Kenya) – (RM1,200 and a trophy)
  • Third Place: Tho Siaw Kim (Malaysia) – (RM1,000 and a trophy)

In the women’s category, Chepngetich Langat led the field, with fellow Kenyan Caroline Cherono taking second place.

A Community United by Health and Heritage

Beyond the competition, the Kuching Half Marathon Heritage Run was a celebration of the city’s heritage and the growing health and fitness consciousness within the community. The event was a testament to the hard work of the organizers, particularly the City Joggers Club (CJC) Kuching, and the enthusiastic participation of the runners.

Dato Wee Hong Seng, Mayor of MBKS, expressed his delight at the success of the event. In his remarks, he highlighted the role of the marathon in promoting healthy living and fostering community spirit.

“We hope this is just the beginning for the City Joggers Club Kuching. We will appeal to the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts Sarawak (MTCP) to support making the Kuching Half Marathon Heritage Run an annual event. This event brings awareness to a healthy city concept and unites our Sarawakians together,” said Wee.
