KOTA KINABALU, Jan 10 – AirAsia, in partnership with Kota Kinabalu International Airport (KKIA), recently organised an inspiring community outreach programme aimed at educating and empowering Sabahan students about the aviation industry. This two-day initiative, which concluded last week, provided a rare behind-the-scenes look into the bustling world of aviation for 79 students and teachers from Maktab Rendah Sains Mara (MRSM) Kota Kinabalu and Sekolah Menengah Kebangsaan (SMK) Petagas.
The programme featured a range of engaging activities designed to spark curiosity and interest in aviation careers. Students participated in check-in and departure simulations, explored aircraft interiors, and embarked on taxiway tours. Additionally, they gained valuable insights into the vital roles played by the Airport Fire and Rescue Services (AFRS).
AirAsia Malaysia CEO, Datuk Captain Fareh Mazputra, highlighted the importance of such initiatives, stating, “Empowering youth means providing them with the tools and inspiration to dream big. By giving them an up-close experience of the aviation industry, we hope to nurture local talent and contribute to the sector’s growth and sustainability. This aligns with AirAsia’s commitment to fostering future leaders in aviation.”
The programme also showcased KKIA’s dedication to promoting aviation awareness among the younger generation. “As Sabah’s primary gateway, KKIA continues to inspire students with real-world insights into airport and aviation operations, opening doors to exciting career opportunities,” Datuk Fareh added.
The event on January 7 saw 39 students from SMK Petagas benefitting from similar exposure, marking a successful conclusion to the initiative. By bridging the gap between education and industry, this collaboration reinforces the importance of community-driven efforts in shaping future leaders of the aviation industry.
