MeoW Autism Run Draws Thousands in Support of Autism Awareness and Inclusion
Around 3,300 enthusiastic runners, hailing from various corners of the globe, converged in Kuching today to participate in the annual MeoW Autism Run. The event, which saw active involvement from individuals from countries like the Philippines, Switzerland, Indonesia, Singapore, and Pakistan, witnessed a remarkable turnout, bolstered by the presence of 271 participants diagnosed with autism.
At the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) Complex, the event commenced with great fervor as Kuching South mayor Datuk Wee Hong Seng flagged off the run. Addressing the gathering, Mayor Wee emphasized the significance of the run as a symbol of solidarity, transcending geographical boundaries and fostering unity among individuals from diverse backgrounds, including foreign participants.
Fundraising Success and Advocacy for Autism Awareness
Mayor Wee lauded the collective efforts of participants and organizers, highlighting the commendable achievement of raising RM120,000 during the event. However, he emphasized the need for sustained fundraising endeavors to support the Kuching Autistic Association (KAA) Educational and Vocational Training Centre.
Expressing gratitude to the KAA for their unwavering dedication in championing the cause of individuals living with autism, Mayor Wee reiterated the importance of advocacy and inclusion. He underscored the role of the run in promoting autism awareness and fostering a sense of community commitment towards supporting individuals with autism.

Reflecting on the journey of the KAA since its establishment in 1998, Mayor Wee praised the association as a beacon of hope, empowering children and adults with autism to realize their fullest potential. He commended the remarkable work being carried out at the KAA Educational and Vocational Training Centre, emphasizing its role in providing personalized education and training to individuals with autism.
Mayor Wee highlighted the Sunshine Hub Sheltered Workshop, which offers invaluable skills training to adults with autism, as a testament to the association’s efforts in fostering inclusion and self-sufficiency within the community. Additionally, he acknowledged the association’s holistic approach in providing emotional support and guidance to parents navigating the challenges of raising children with autism.

In a heartfelt message to parents, Mayor Wee emphasized the importance of encouragement and perseverance in supporting children with autism.
