BAU, Jan 9 – The historic Bau Goldfield is poised to undergo a remarkable transformation as Besra Gold Inc., alongside North Borneo Gold (NBG) and Quantum Metal, outlines plans to establish the region as a hub for gold mining innovation and a unique tourism destination.
The initiative, spearheaded by Besra Gold Inc., focuses on the Jugan Project, a pivotal step in revitalising gold mining in Bau. A site visit at Jalan Jugan/Buso, hosted today, showcased advanced technology and highlighted the project’s immense potential to over 50 stakeholders, including shareholders, consultants, and media members.
Progress and Potential
During the visit, participants witnessed cutting-edge diamond drilling equipment extracting rock samples for gold analysis. NBG Managing Director Matthew Antill detailed the progress and underscored Besra Gold’s commitment to advancing Bau’s gold mining legacy.
Quantum Metal’s corporate advisor, Dato Daniel Chin Swee Chong, revealed that operations hinge on final approval from the Sarawak government. “We’ve secured the gold concession and are ready to commence once the green light is given,” he assured.
Reviving Bau’s Legacy
With gold prices soaring and advancements in mining technology, Chin expressed confidence in the project’s success. “In the past, mining here stopped due to low prices and outdated methods. Today, technology allows us to overcome these challenges effectively,” he said.
A Blend of Mining and Tourism
Beyond mining, the project envisions transforming Bau into Malaysia’s first integrated mining-tourism destination. “We aim to create facilities where visitors can observe the gold mining process while appreciating Bau’s rich heritage,” Chin explained.
As the 13th largest gold reserve in Asia, Bau’s 200-year history of gold mining is set to shine again, blending innovation with tourism to attract visitors to Sarawak.
