BINTULU, Feb 10 – After receiving numerous public complaints about slow post-flood cleanup efforts, Bintulu MP Dato Sri Tiong King Sing has taken immediate action to improve waste disposal efficiency. Volunteer teams from the Progressive Democratic Party (PDP), along with Persatuan Persahabatan Zong Ho and other organisations, have deployed lorries, excavators, and other equipment to speed up the waste clearance process.
In a Facebook post, Tiong acknowledged the frustrations of flood victims who are now struggling with unsatisfactory sanitary conditions and mounting piles of debris.
“I completely understand everyone’s emotions at this moment. After enduring a devastating flood, you are now faced with the overwhelming task of cleanup, with unsatisfactory sanitary conditions and piles of rubbish,” he said.

Tiong reassured residents that the situation is being closely monitored and that the cleanup efforts are being expedited.
The Bintulu MP, who is also the federal Minister of Tourism, Arts, and Culture, visited several affected areas and noted that many streets are still covered with flood debris. Due to a shortage of manpower at the Bintulu Development Authority (BDA), Tiong personally coordinated with volunteer teams to fill the gap and ensure waste clearance is conducted swiftly and efficiently.
“Given the sheer volume of waste, failure to clear it quickly may lead to foul smells and potential health risks,” he warned.
He urged residents to assist in the cleanup by placing household waste at designated collection points for easier pickup by the teams.
“This will help us complete the operation more efficiently and restore Bintulu to a clean and orderly state as soon as possible,” Tiong added.
The mobilised teams are now actively clearing streets and residential areas in Bintulu, working to prevent further health and environmental risks. Residents are encouraged to cooperate fully to ensure a speedy recovery for the community.
