In a dramatic turn of events at a Nordstrom Rack store outside Denver, shopper Michelle Chandler took matters into her own hands when she caught a Peeping Tom suspect snooping on her in a dressing room. Chandler was in the middle of trying on clothes when she noticed something suspicious under the partition.

Taking Action

Without hesitation, Chandler grabbed the suspect and held him in a headlock for a full 20 minutes until police arrived. Her swift action and determination prevented the man from escaping. “You’re not going anywhere. If you relax, it’s going to be a lot easier for you,” Chandler was heard telling the suspect. At one point, she even sat on him to ensure he couldn’t flee.

Store staff at Nordstrom Rack assisted Chandler in holding the suspect until authorities took over. Their cooperation highlights the importance of quick and coordinated efforts in such situations.

A Growing Problem

Peeping Tom incidents in dressing rooms have become an alarming phenomenon, leaving shoppers feeling vulnerable and violated. In a similar incident, Emily Lang, a shopper at a Forever 21 store in Kansas, photographed a peeper’s cell phone after noticing it while she was undressed in a changing room. “I was in a state of undress, my clothes scattered about the floor,” Lang recounted, expressing the distress such invasions of privacy cause.

These incidents aren’t isolated. Another suspect was apprehended for spying on women in a Nordstrom Rack store in Ohio. Reports indicated that someone matching the suspect’s description had been filming women with a camera beneath the dressing room partitions.

Shoppers Fight Back

Shoppers are increasingly taking a stand against these violations. Chandler’s courageous act of restraining the suspect in Denver is a testament to the rising frustration and determination among victims to protect their privacy and safety. “We’ve had enough and are fighting back, even if it means using a headlock,” Chandler emphasized.

Such incidents underscore the need for enhanced security measures in retail spaces to ensure shoppers can try on clothes without fear of being watched or recorded.
