Flood, congestion issues at Pan Borneo Highway resolved

KUCHING: The Works Ministry has unveiled plans to address the persistent flood and congestion issues plaguing the Pan Borneo Highway. Deputy Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan revealed that the ministry has devised strategies to mitigate these challenges, with an official announcement forthcoming from the minister.
During a press conference following his visit to the SK Jalan Haji Baki site, Maslan affirmed the ministry’s commitment to resolving the issues promptly. He acknowledged the detailed briefings received on various concerns, including the congestion problems at Pekan Jakar, Sarikei.
“Rest assured, there will be significant announcements made,” Maslan assured reporters.
Addressing Safety Concerns
Responding to queries about safety along the Pan Borneo Highway, Maslan elaborated on the findings of studies conducted by the Transport Ministry. According to these studies, a majority of road accidents (80 percent) stem from driver negligence, with road conditions (13 percent) and faulty vehicles (seven percent) also contributing factors.
“The ministry’s focus lies in addressing the 13 percent attributed to road conditions,” Maslan explained. “We are committed to rectifying any issues within our purview to ensure the safety of all highway users.”
