MELAKA (Jan 2): A total of 147 police officers and personnel were dismissed last year for various offences, according to Bukit Aman’s Integrity and Standards Compliance Department (JIPS) director, Datuk Seri Azri Ahmad. The dismissal reflects the police force’s commitment to upholding discipline and integrity among its ranks.

Speaking at the handover of duties ceremony between outgoing Melaka police chief Datuk Zainol Samah and acting successor Datuk Md Nazri Zawawi, Azri revealed that drug-related offences accounted for most of the cases.

“Typically, when a urine test is positive, we send the second sample to a hospital pathologist for confirmation. If the results are positive, the individuals are charged in court. Once found guilty, dismissal follows,” he explained.

Azri stressed the importance of maintaining public trust, stating that the police would not tolerate any form of misconduct within its ranks. He reiterated that the role of the police is to serve as protectors of the community, and any violation of this responsibility would be met with strict disciplinary measures.

He added that such stringent actions are necessary to maintain the force’s integrity and ensure that all personnel adhere to the highest ethical standards.

The handover ceremony also highlighted the dedication of the police to improving law enforcement standards across Malaysia. Datuk Md Nazri Zawawi, the acting Melaka police chief, vowed to continue the efforts of his predecessor in enhancing safety and security in the state.

This crackdown on misconduct demonstrates the police force’s commitment to maintaining its credibility and public confidence, serving as a reminder that no one is above the law.
