SIBU (Feb 10): A man and a woman were lucky to escape unharmed after the car they were travelling in caught fire at Jalan Ulu Lanang this afternoon.

The incident happened around 12.40pm, prompting an immediate response from the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba). According to a Bomba statement, 11 firefighters from the Sibu Central fire station were dispatched to the scene after receiving an emergency call.

Upon arriving at the location, the operation commander confirmed that the car’s engine had caught fire.

“The fire caused 70 per cent damage to the car,” the statement said.

The firefighters swiftly took action to extinguish the fire, ensuring that it did not spread further. After thorough checks, the team confirmed that no remnants of the fire were left at the scene. The operation concluded at 12.58pm.

Fortunately, both occupants of the vehicle managed to escape the incident without any injuries. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
