MIRI, Jan 28 – Torrential floods have left a trail of destruction in Beluru district, impacting 45 areas and displacing 4,974 residents as of 9pm on January 27. Heavy rainfall and high tides since January 11 have caused significant disruptions, submerging longhouses, villages, schools, and healthcare facilities.

According to the Civil Defence Force (APM), some areas are experiencing record-high water levels. Rh Magdaline in Lubok Mulong, Tinjar, is among the worst-hit, with water rising to 8 feet 4 inches, affecting 290 residents. Long Sepiling, Tinjar, reported 4 feet 8 inches of flooding, while Rh Sporran at Sungai Sebindang faced up to 8 feet of water, forcing 35 residents to adapt to this escalating crisis.

Educational Institutions and Healthcare Facilities Impacted

Floodwaters have also reached schools and clinics, hampering essential services. SK Kuala Bok is submerged under 5 feet of water, impacting 25 staff members. SK Long Teru reported 3 feet 2 inches of flooding, while other schools, including SK Sungai Bain (2.3 feet) and SK Sungai Bong (45 inches), face similar challenges.

Healthcare services are under strain as Klinik Kesihatan Long Teru contends with 74 cm of water, affecting its ability to serve residents during this critical period.

Affected Areas and Rising Water Levels

Other severely flooded areas include Long Tisam, Tinjar (5 feet); Rh Kompeni, Tanjung Mawang (4.5 feet); and Rh Jalin, Long Tisam D (7 feet). Despite some locations reporting receding water levels, the Beluru District Office warns that most areas continue to experience rising waters.
