KUCHING, Sarawak (May 29) – The CFM highlighted these unique festivals, known for their emphasis on collective joy, peace, and harmony, as opportunities to strengthen bonds. “These celebrations offer a chance to renew friendships and solidify family and community ties,” the statement reads.

Lessons in Harmony from East Malaysia

The CFM specifically points to the example set by Sabah and Sarawak. “One of the beautiful lessons we can learn from our fellow Malaysians in Sabah and Sarawak is their strong desire and ability to live together peacefully,” the statement continues. It emphasizes the importance of embracing diverse ethnicities, cultures, languages, and religions.

Celebrating Together for a More Unified Nation

The CFM’s message extends beyond mere celebration. They express a hope that the spirit of unity and harmony prevalent during Gawai and Kaamatan will permeate throughout Malaysia. “Let us rejoice and celebrate together,” they urge, “and pray that this spirit will spread throughout our beloved nation.”

The statement concludes with greetings to all Sabahans and Sarawakians, signed by prominent Christian leaders: Very Rev Philip Thomas Cor Episcopa (Orthodox Syrian Church Malaysia vicar and CFM chairman), Archbishop Simon Poh (Roman Catholic Archdiocese of Kuching, Sarawak), Rt Revd Datuk Danald Jute (Anglican Bishop of Sarawak and Brunei), and Revd Dr Eu Hong Seng (National Evangelical Christian Fellowship (NECF) Malaysia chairman).
