KUCHING (Jan 8): Authorities have detained three women, including the owner and caretakers of a daycare centre in Batu Kawa, following a shocking incident involving an eight-month-old baby allegedly bitten while under their care.
The case came to light when the baby’s mother lodged a police report on Jan 7 at around 9.30pm. Padawan District Police Chief Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz confirmed that the three women were detained at 7pm on Wednesday to aid in the investigation.
The incident is being probed under Section 31(1) of the Child Act 2001, which addresses offences involving child abuse, neglect, or harm.
“The mother of the baby lodged a report after noticing the alleged injuries on her child. Following this, the owner and caretakers of the daycare were taken into custody for further questioning,” Supt Mohd Irwan Hafiz said in a press statement.
Parents in Batu Kawa have expressed concerns following the incident, with many calling for stricter oversight of daycare centres in the area to ensure the safety and well-being of children.
