KUCHING, SARAWAK – The Deputy Premier of Sarawak, Dr. Sim Kui Hian, took part in a heartwarming charity food aid event organized by the Kuching, Samarahan, and Serian Hawker Association alongside the Hui Sing Hawker Association. The event marked the associations’ 31st anniversary and was held at the Hui Sing Hawker Center, drawing attention to community unity and support for those in need.
Prominent attendees included Kapitan Tan Kun Gee, Siok Eng Pung, and Sim Kiang Chiok, who joined hands with Dr. Sim to emphasize the significance of giving back to the community. The initiative reinforced Sarawak’s spirit of helping one another, especially during challenging times.
Dr. Sim highlighted that while global factors like rising costs, foreign exchange rates, and taxes remain beyond Sarawak’s control, the state government is dedicated to providing relief. He underscored the role of the Sumbangan Keperluan Asas Sarawak (SKAS) program, which will benefit approximately 850,000 Sarawakians in 2024, following the success of similar initiatives like the BKSS during the COVID-19 pandemic.
“Efforts like SKAS and today’s charity event are vital steps in ensuring Sarawak’s vision under #PCDS2030, fostering social inclusiveness and building a better future for all Sarawakians,” Dr. Sim said.
The event also shed light on the importance of collaboration between communities and government initiatives to tackle rising living costs. By fostering unity and mutual support, Sarawakians are reminded of their collective strength in overcoming social challenges.
