KUCHING, Jan 18: A devastating accident occurred last night along Jalan Laksamana Cheng Ho, leaving an elderly pedestrian with severe injuries after being struck by an out-of-control pick-up truck in front of a bank.
According to Kuching police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah, the incident, which took place at approximately 8pm, involved three vehicles and caused significant damage to the surrounding area.
Accident Details
Preliminary investigations revealed that the pick-up truck, driven by a man in his 60s, lost control and hit the victim, who was also in his 60s, just outside the bank. The force of the collision caused the victim to sustain critical injuries to his left leg and head. He is currently receiving urgent medical care at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) emergency unit.

The crash also shattered the bank’s window and damaged two parked vehicles along with the exterior wall of a nearby house.
Legal Proceedings Underway
Mohd Farhan stated that the case is being investigated under Section 43(1) of the Traffic Act 1987, which imposes penalties of up to RM10,000 in fines or a maximum imprisonment of 12 months upon conviction.
