Miri, 17th February 2025 – In a major crackdown on illegal gambling activities, nine premises operating unlawful gambling establishments in Miri had their electricity supply cut off as part of an integrated operation on the evening of February 17.
The operation, which ran from 2:00 PM to 5:00 PM, was a joint effort between Syarikat Sesco Bhd and the Miri District Police (IPD). The initiative was carried out under Section 21A (1) of the Open Gambling Houses Act 1953, a strategic move aimed at curbing the growing issue of illegal gambling that has been increasingly spreading across Miri.

The affected premises were located in key areas such as Pasar Lutong and Bandar Baru Permyjaya. These locations have been identified as hotspots for illegal gambling activities, and authorities are taking swift measures to tackle the problem.

The electricity cut-offs were a firm step in the ongoing efforts to maintain public order and prevent unlawful activities from flourishing. The authorities stated that these types of operations will be regularly carried out to ensure that the Miri area remains free from illegal gambling.
