KUCHING (July 30) – The anticipation for the Mayor’s Walk 2024 is palpable as organizers expect more than 10,000 participants to join the event on August 18, a Sunday. This year’s walk promises to be a highlight of the ongoing Kuching Festival 2024.
Preparation and Registration Details
MBKS Prepares for Massive Turnout
In preparation for the large turnout, the Kuching South City Council (MBKS) has readied 10,000 official T-shirts for the event. The flag-off is scheduled for 7am at the foyer of the MBKS building.
Easy Registration via iPeople App
Participants can register for the Mayor’s Walk 2024 using the ‘iPeople’ app, which is available for download on both the Google Play Store (for Android) and the IOS Store. According to Kuching South Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng, users must first create their accounts on the app.
Step-by-Step Registration Process
Upon successful login, users can click ‘Event’ on the app interface to access the digital registration form for the Mayor’s Walk 2024. Here’s a quick guide:
- Click ‘Register Now’: After reaching the ‘Intro’ page.
- Add Participants: Include up to three additional participants by clicking the ‘Add Other Participant’ button.
- Generate QR Code: Upon successful registration, a QR code will be generated for T-shirt collection.
T-Shirt Collection and Registration Deadline
The date and venue for T-shirt collection will be notified via the ‘iPeople’ app. The closing date for registration is Sunday, August 11, 2024. T-shirts will be distributed on a first-come, first-served basis, so participants are urged to register promptly.

Zumba Warm-Up Session
The event will kick off with a Zumba warm-up session at 6.30am, running for half an hour before the walk begins. This energetic start is expected to get participants in the right spirit for the walk.
Encouraging Participation
Mayor Wee encouraged participants to wear last year’s T-shirts if the new ones run out or any yellow shirt to join the walk. “This is a multi-faceted event that not only promotes physical health but also strengthens community ties, supports local economies, and fosters a sense of civic pride and environmental responsibility,” he added.
