The SSCS, known for its focus on sprint events, will provide a fast-paced and competitive environment for swimmers of all levels, offering them a platform to test their speed and endurance in the pool. The event, organised by the Power Aquatics Swimming Club (PASC) with support from the Sarawak Sports Corporation (SSC), is expected to draw crowds of spectators eager to witness thrilling races.

A Platform for Emerging Talents

According to PASC founder, Voon Yong Hui, the Sarawak Short Course Meet serves not only as a competitive stage but also as a valuable opportunity for younger and less experienced swimmers to gain exposure. “This event is expected to provide valuable experience for upcoming swimmers, especially those eyeing regional and international tournaments,” Voon said, adding that the meet will play a crucial role in helping swimmers from Southeast Asia to measure their progress and develop further.

Voon is particularly excited about the participation of regional swimmers, as it fosters camaraderie, sportsmanship, and healthy competition between nations. He believes the meet will help in preparing swimmers for more significant competitions, including the much-anticipated SEA Games, which will take place in Sarawak in 2027.

World-Class Venue

The SSCS meet will take place at the state-of-the-art Pandelela Rinong Aquatic Centre, which is named after Malaysia’s celebrated Olympic diver, Pandelela Rinong. The aquatic centre boasts top-notch facilities and has hosted numerous international and national swimming events, making it the perfect venue for both seasoned athletes and rising stars to compete at their best.

Participants will have the chance to test their skills in a world-class setting, with the hope of setting new records and personal best times. Voon also expressed confidence that the Sarawak swimmers will continue their strong tradition of delivering top performances, following their recent achievements at Sukma XXI.

“We hope this will be one of the platforms for our swimmers to prepare for the upcoming SEA Games in Sarawak in 2027,” he added, underlining the importance of the event as a stepping stone for future international competitions.

Boosting Sarawak’s Sporting Reputation

As the host state, Sarawak has become a significant hub for swimming in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia. The state has built a solid reputation for nurturing and showcasing local talent through competitions like the SSCS, while also promoting the development of aquatic sports within the region. With over 550 participants expected to compete, the event will further enhance Sarawak’s standing in the world of sports, drawing attention from the local and international swimming community.

Spectators are encouraged to attend the event to cheer on their favourite swimmers and witness some thrilling races. The organisers have highlighted that the meet will be a chance for spectators to enjoy top-tier swimming while soaking in the vibrant culture and hospitality of Sarawak.

“We hope that the swimmers and teams visiting Sarawak will have a memorable experience not only in the pool but also in exploring the rich culture and warm hospitality of the state,” Voon said, expressing the hope that visitors will leave with a positive impression of both the competition and the host location.

What to Expect

The three-day event is packed with exciting sprint races that will push swimmers to their limits. The races include the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke, and 50m butterfly, showcasing the speed and technique of some of the best swimmers from the region.
