KUCHING: A rental room at a shop lot on Jalan Wan Alwi was completely destroyed in a fire yesterday afternoon, causing significant damage to the premises. Fortunately, no injuries or casualties were reported.
According to Operations Commander Pandi Seh, his team received an emergency call at 5.25pm and immediately rushed to the scene.
“Upon arrival, we found that the fire had engulfed a prayer area, including tables and stationery, within a 3×4 metre room,” he explained when contacted.

The rental room was 100% burned, while 50% of the shop structure suffered damage due to thick smoke.
Thankfully, quick action by the occupants of the premises prevented the situation from worsening. Using a fire extinguisher, they managed to put out the flames before the fire brigade arrived.
Firefighters monitored the site to ensure there were no remaining fire sources before declaring the operation closed.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation, and authorities have reminded the public to always stay vigilant and ensure proper fire safety measures, especially in buildings with shared spaces.
This incident highlights the importance of having fire extinguishers on hand, as they can help prevent a minor fire from turning into a major disaster.
