SIBU: Five residents of a two-storey house at Lorong 18F, Jalan Lada, breathed a sigh of relief after they managed to escape safely from a sudden fire this evening.
The incident, which happened today, caused almost half of the ground floor to be burnt. However, thanks to the quick action of the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM), the fire was successfully brought under control.
According to the Head of JBPM Sibu Zone, Andy Alie, the department received the emergency call at exactly 3.17 pm. Following the call, the Operations Response Team (PKO) from Sibu Sentral Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) rushed to the scene.

“The fire involved a permanent two-storey house. About 40 per cent of the ground floor was destroyed in the fire. Thankfully, all five residents were safe and no one was injured,” Andy said in an official statement.
Firefighters worked hard to fully put out the fire, and by 4.38 pm, the fire was successfully extinguished.
At this moment, the cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Fire Department is also calculating the full loss faced by the residents.
This incident serves as a reminder to all residents to always check their electrical appliances, ensure fire safety at home, and be alert to any early signs of fire.
JBPM also advised the public to immediately contact the emergency number 999 if they see any fire or dangerous situation. Fast action can help save lives and reduce property damage.
With the quick response from JBPM and the safe escape of all residents, this fire thankfully did not lead to any tragedy.
