TATAU: The flood situation in Tatau District has improved with water levels receding in some areas, but authorities caution that the situation remains risky for residents, especially in low-lying areas.

Tatau District Officer, Calvin Ligong, who also chairs the Tatau District Disaster Management Committee, conducted an aerial survey of the affected locations today, accompanied by the Royal Malaysian Police (PDRM) Air Operations Force.

According to a report by the Irrigation and Drainage Department (JPS), water levels in Sungai Muput and Ulu Anap have shown a notable decrease but remain at warning levels, urging residents to stay alert.

In Tatau Town, the water level also remains at the warning threshold, with floodwaters still affecting several areas. Villages like Kampung Dagang, Kampung Baharu, and the downstream areas of Batang Anap continue to face the brunt of the floods, keeping residents on edge.

Meanwhile, the Steven Jeli House Temporary Evacuation Centre (PPS) at Sekolah Kebangsaan (SK) Kuala Muput remains operational, providing shelter to 34 individuals from 13 families displaced by the floodwaters.

Authorities have advised residents in flood-prone areas to remain vigilant and adhere to safety instructions, as weather conditions may change rapidly. While the decrease in water levels offers hope, the threat of further flooding is not entirely eliminated.
