In a significant move to curb illegal activities surrounding subsidised goods, the General Operations Force (GOF) has recently handed over a substantial amount of confiscated cooking oil to the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

According to KPDN Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin, the GOF seized 8,347kg of subsidised cooking oil with an estimated worth exceeding RM20,000 during a successful operation in Kampung Raso 2, Lundu. This operation also led to the confiscation of two lorries believed to be involved in the transportation of the illicit goods.

Matthew Dominic Barin further stated, “The combined value of the seized cooking oil and the two lorries amounts to RM75,867.50.”

In addition to the confiscation, GOF detained two individuals at the scene, who have been handed over to the ministry for further investigation under Section 20 (1) of the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

Highlighting the seriousness of the matter, Matthew emphasized that investigations would be conducted under the same Act to uncover any potential involvement of individuals or companies in the illegal activities.

As of May 9, KPDN Sarawak has conducted a total of 30,547 inspections, resulting in 345 cases of violations involving controlled goods with a seized value of RM13,843,566.40. The ministry has also imposed fines totaling RM61,900 across 90 cases under the Control of Supplies Act 1961.

In light of these developments, KPDN urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities related to the misuse of controlled and subsidised goods, which pose significant economic losses to the nation.
