KOTA SAMARAHAN: Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) remains steadfast in its fight for Sarawak’s oil and gas rights, emphasizing that there is no need for a bipartisan committee with the Democratic Action Party (DAP).
Deputy Prime Minister Dato Sri Fadillah Yusof, who is also the Senior Vice President of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), reaffirmed GPS’s commitment, stating that their stand on this issue has always been clear. He stressed that the four component parties—PBB, Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP), Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS), and Progressive Democratic Party (PDP)—are united in their efforts.

Dato Sri Fadillah dismissed the need for a bipartisan Oil and Gas Committee, as suggested by the Democratic Action Party Socialist Youth (DAPSY) of Sarawak. He questioned the sincerity of DAP’s proposal, highlighting that GPS has consistently fought for Sarawak’s rights without external collaboration.
“Our struggle under GPS has been consistent from the beginning,” he stated. “But I am not sure about their sincerity. They criticize GPS more than they support our efforts, so I do not know where their true intentions lie.”
He made these remarks during the Sarawak 2025 Ramadan Charity Ceremony of the Ministry of Rural and Regional Development (KKDW) at the Darul Sabirin Mosque in Kampung Empila on Friday.
Oil and Gas Struggle Continues Through Parliamentary Votes
Dato Sri Fadillah further explained that the fight for Sarawak’s oil and gas rights should be reflected in parliamentary decisions rather than forming unnecessary committees.
Addressing Rising Prices in Sarawak
Meanwhile, on the issue of increasing kitchen item prices in Sarawak, he urged the public to file complaints with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).
“I will refer this matter to the Minister of KPDN, Datuk Armizan Mohd Ali, to monitor the price situation, including the availability of stock,” he added.
Among those present at the event were Deputy Minister of KKDW Datuk Rubiah Wang, Secretary-General of KKDW Datuk Muhd Khair Razman Mohamed Annuar, Kota Samarahan Resident Mohamad Irwan Bahari Bujang, and other dignitaries. — UKAS EDITION
