The Sarawak Public Communications Unit (Ukas) reported that these projects, sanctioned by the Sarawak Minister of Education, Innovation, and Talent Development (MEITD), Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn, span from Opar to Balai Ringin, bringing essential amenities, improved infrastructure, and growth opportunities to Sarawak’s rural landscape. Dato Sri Roland Sagah Wee Inn made these announcements during the GKCDA Project Completion and Handover Ceremony in Tebedu, Serian, outlining GKCDA’s targeted development plans.

Boosting Infrastructure Across Kuching and Serian

According to Dato Sri Roland Sagah, the 372 projects have been strategically divided between the Kuching and Serian divisions to ensure broad-based benefits across constituencies. As of October 2024, the allocation includes 201 projects for the Kuching Division and 171 for the Serian Division, illustrating a well-balanced distribution aimed at optimizing rural development across Sarawak.

“We have projects in various stages of completion and more in the pipeline. Currently, 201 projects have been assigned to Kuching, while Serian will benefit from 171 initiatives,” Dato Sri Roland said. “For instance, the Bukit Semuja constituency alone has secured 47 projects, totaling an investment of RM152 million. This indicates our agency’s commitment to ensuring every constituency has the support needed for substantial improvements.”

Water Supply Projects for Rural Communities

Among the projects completed, Dato Sri Roland highlighted two essential water supply extensions to Kampung Sorak and Kampung Belimbing A, valued at RM182,695 and RM163,250 respectively. These projects aim to address critical water needs, improving the quality of life for residents and aligning with Sarawak’s goals for sustainable development.

With Sarawak’s continued investment in these projects, rural communities in constituencies such as Opar, Mambong, and Serembu can look forward to better access to clean water, improved road networks, upgraded schools, and health facilities.

Project Progress and Upcoming Developments

Providing an update on the current project statuses, Dato Sri Roland shared that GKCDA has successfully completed six projects, with 48 projects in the hands of contractors, 34 projects in the tendering phase, and 282 others in the planning and documentation stages. The agency’s phased approach ensures that each project meets local needs and is well-coordinated to achieve maximum impact.

Dato Sri Roland, who also serves as the assemblyman for Tarat, emphasized the importance of this project lineup for rural constituencies, as these developments will spur economic growth, improve essential services, and create new employment opportunities.

Collaborative Efforts for Rural Transformation

During the ceremony, Dato Sri Roland was joined by several other dignitaries, including Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus, Tebedu assemblyman Dr. Simon Sinang Bada, and Serembu assemblyman Miro Simuh. Serian Division Resident Caroline Cleophas Joseph, GKCDA Special Administrative Officer Datu Ik Pahon Joyik, and political secretaries to the Premier of Sarawak, John Nyigor and Damian Rejek, were also present, underscoring the unified commitment towards GKCDA’s rural transformation agenda.

The presence of these notable leaders highlights the collaborative approach between GKCDA and other local authorities, ensuring that development plans are synchronized with community needs. Through this unified front, GKCDA is empowered to deliver projects that reflect local priorities, reinforcing the agency’s mission to enhance the rural experience and overall welfare in Sarawak.

Empowering Sarawak’s Future Through Strategic Development

This launch of 372 projects reflects Sarawak’s determination to elevate the state’s rural landscape, ensuring that all residents can enjoy equitable access to essential services, modern facilities, and sustainable economic growth. As GKCDA continues to roll out these projects, communities across Kuching and Serian can anticipate a future with improved infrastructure and enhanced quality of life.

GKCDA’s efforts align closely with Sarawak’s vision of becoming a high-income, prosperous state by 2030. The agency’s approach, focusing on comprehensive planning, strategic partnerships, and effective project execution, will likely serve as a model for future development initiatives across Malaysia.

As the GKCDA gears up to implement additional phases, rural communities in Sarawak are poised to reap the benefits of strategic development, positioning the state for continued growth and transformation. With projects spanning education, health, water supply, and road infrastructure, GKCDA’s initiatives are instrumental in bridging the urban-rural divide, fostering a more connected and vibrant Sarawak.
