Holiday Travel Alert Beach Closures Across America Raise Concerns Over Harmful Bacteria

As the Fourth of July holiday approaches, a record number of travelers are expected to hit the skies and roads across the United States. More than 70 million people are anticipated to travel, marking one of the busiest periods since the onset of the pandemic.

TSA Braces for Airport Rush with 3 Million Daily Passengers

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) is preparing for a surge in air travel, estimating around 3 million passengers per day at America’s airports. This influx signals a robust recovery in domestic travel as pandemic restrictions ease.

Beachgoers Alerted as Dozens of Beaches Close Due to Harmful Bacteria

Amid the peak summer travel season, beach closures have become a growing concern. From coast to coast, 37 beaches in Massachusetts alone have been shut down due to bacterial exceedance. Health officials attribute this closure to high levels of cyanobacteria, also known as blue-green algae, which pose health risks upon exposure.

Health Risks and Precautions Advised

Health experts caution against swimming or entering the water at affected beaches. Cyanobacteria thrive in warm water and can cause severe health issues including nausea, gastrointestinal distress, and diarrhea upon ingestion. Authorities advise beachgoers, especially children and pets, to avoid contact with contaminated water to prevent illness.
