KAPIT (Dec 6) – A 46-year-old man caused panic in Kapit when he was caught carrying a samurai sword in a public area, allegedly intending to attack his friends following a misunderstanding.
According to Kapit police chief, DSP Rohana Nanu, the incident took place at around 7.30pm last Wednesday at a public restroom. The suspect, who was intoxicated, reportedly acted aggressively, alarming the public.
Upon receiving reports, the police responded quickly and apprehended the man before the situation could escalate. The samurai sword was also confiscated at the scene.
Rohana confirmed that the suspect has been detained under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958, which prohibits the possession of dangerous weapons without a valid reason.
“The public must understand that carrying or possessing dangerous weapons like machetes, folding knives, spears, small axes, or other items listed in the Second Schedule of the Act is illegal. Violators can face imprisonment for a minimum of five years, up to ten years, and can also receive caning,” she warned.
The police chief urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activities involving dangerous weapons to maintain public safety.
