MIRI, Feb 23 – A suspected gas leak caused an explosion in the kitchen of a single-story permanent house in Desa Pujut, Miri, early this morning. Fortunately, no injuries were reported as the tenants were away at the time of the incident.

Explosion Damages Kitchen Structure

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) reported that the explosion occurred around 5am. The blast damaged the kitchen, measuring approximately 8×6 square feet, resulting in broken windows and a collapsed ceiling.

Firefighters from the Lopeng Fire Station were dispatched to the scene immediately after receiving an emergency call. Upon arrival, they discovered that the house was unoccupied, as the tenants were away working at a nearby market.

Quick Action by Firefighters Prevents Further Risk

Upon investigation, firefighters identified a leaking LPG gas cylinder as the likely cause of the explosion. To prevent further hazards, they swiftly moved the gas cylinder outside the house. Fortunately, the fire had already subsided before their arrival, so no firefighting action was necessary.

Bomba personnel ensured the area was safe before concluding their operations at 5.40am. Authorities have urged homeowners to regularly check their gas cylinders and kitchen appliances to prevent such incidents in the future.
