KUCHING: Sarawak welcomed 2025 with a grand celebration at the Kuching Waterfront. Over 10,000 people came together, even in the rain, to enjoy the festive night.
The Darul Hana Bridge and Sarawak Legislative Assembly Building glowed beautifully during the midnight fireworks display, creating a magical scene. The event theme, ‘Countdown 2025: Let’s Celebrate Together’, brought everyone closer for a night to remember.
The fun began early at 8 am, with activities continuing into the evening. Hosts Fir Affandi, Reazza Ali, and Sharifah Elya kept the crowd entertained, while Lan Perey and Ashweein Narayanan added laughs with their comedy skits.
At 10 pm, Sarawak’s Head of State, Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, arrived with his wife, Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi. Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg and his wife, Puan Sri Datuk Amar Juma’ani Tun Tuanku Bujang, had arrived earlier to join the celebration.
The event started with patriotic songs Negaraku and Ibu Pertiwiku, followed by a lively opening show from Permata Majlis Seni Sarawak. A video by the Sarawak Public Communications Unit (UKAS) shared New Year messages from state leaders.
Performances by local stars like Zee Avi, Harris Mukhriz, and international icon Hetty Koes Endang thrilled the audience. Hetty sang her famous hits like ‘Berdiri Bulu Romaku’ and ‘Kasih’, leaving the crowd in awe.
As the clock struck midnight, fireworks lit up the rainy sky, adding a special touch to the celebration. The fun continued late into the night with performances by Akim & The Majistret and a Sarawak band, making it a perfect start to 2025.
