KUCHING, 19 February – A devastating fire broke out at Lorong 10, Tabuan Dayak at around 8 PM on 16th February, reducing four houses to ashes and displacing 23 residents from eight families. Thick smoke filled the sky as flames spread rapidly, but thanks to the swift and coordinated response of firefighters, volunteers, and community leaders, the situation was contained without casualties.
Fire and Rescue Team’s Heroic Effort

The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) displayed outstanding efficiency, arriving at the scene swiftly after receiving the emergency call. Firefighters worked tirelessly, using hoses and advanced equipment to prevent the fire from spreading further. Their quick response helped minimize the destruction and ensured no lives were lost.
Leaders and Volunteers Spring into Action
Following the incident, Sih Hua Tong and his team rushed to the site, providing comfort and support to the victims. Kuching Mayor Wee Hong Seng quickly joined the efforts, leading the coordination of rescue and relief operations. His hands-on approach in maintaining order, gathering victims’ information, and organizing emergency assistance played a key role in the relief efforts.

The Malaysian Civil Defense Force (APM) also acted promptly, setting up temporary shelters and distributing essential supplies. Their dedication ensured that every affected family received immediate help, with proper registration and resettlement procedures in place.
Community Comes Together
Community leaders, including City Councilors Roy Mason and Mok Chong Ping, and village chief KK Dorothy, worked hard to ensure smooth resettlement efforts. Organizations like the Batu Lintang Caring Committee, Tiong Hock Kiong Temple, and Batu Lintang SUPP Youth mobilized emergency relief items, delivering food, drinking water, and essential supplies to the victims.

In a heartwarming display of solidarity, All Saints’ Church generously opened its hall as a temporary shelter, providing a safe space for those affected.

Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the fire. Meanwhile, efforts are ongoing to support the victims in rebuilding their lives. A disaster relief committee has been established, and the public is encouraged to contribute by donating essential supplies.
