MBKS Mayor Dato Wee Hong Seng highlighted the guidebook as more than a recipe collection. “This guidebook tells Kuching’s story through its culinary delights, celebrating our food culture and creative spirit. It’s an initiative to promote our city’s gastronomic legacy,” he shared during the launch.

The guidebook was produced in collaboration with Malaysia’s Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture (Motac) and supports Kuching’s prestigious recognition as a UNESCO Creative City of Gastronomy in 2021.

Prominent figures present at the ceremony included Motac Secretary-General Datuk Wira Roslan Tan Sri Abdul Rahman and Permanent Secretary to Sarawak’s Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry, and Performing Arts, Datu Sherrina Hussaini.

Beyond celebrating food, the guidebook underscores Kuching’s commitment to sustainability in gastronomy. It highlights the importance of preserving traditional flavors while embracing modern innovations that align with global trends.

“With MOTAC’s support, Kuching’s culinary heritage has achieved global recognition and set the foundation for a sustainable action plan for its preservation and growth,” added Dato Wee.

For locals and tourists alike, this guidebook promises to be an exciting journey through the flavors and stories of Sarawak.
