KUCHING (May 23): The recent Sarawak Sanda Competition at MMA Sports Hub, Boulevard Shopping Mall, saw a spectacular display of martial arts prowess as Mad Fight (MMA) Club emerged as the dominant force. Under the guidance of Sarawak State Sports Council coach Tsan Nieng Khai, the team secured an impressive haul of 10 gold and 10 silver medals across three categories.

Stellar Performances in Sukma Category

In the highly competitive Sukma category, standout performances came from Sukma XXI long list athletes Hiu Bong Shen, Joaquin Chai Xin Zhe, and Matthew Hii Zhen Cheng, each clinching gold medals. Amber Sim Jia Xuan and Muhammad Asyraf Khaldi also showcased their skills, earning silver medals in the Open category.

Junior Open Category Shines

The Junior Open category was another highlight for Mad Fight Club. Young talents Xavier Wee Hao Zhe and Leeroy Valentine Lavern each won two gold medals. Additional gold medals were secured by Hansel Oliver Bong, Alvin Wong Xiu Xian, Max Choo Jun Howe, and Mavess Choo. Silver medals were also won by Kenji Tsan, Samuel Liu U Qian, Christiantio Theodore, Hansel Oliver Bong, Leeroy Valentine, and Hannah Adam, contributing to the club’s overall success.

Competition Highlights and Objectives

Kelab Wushu Jelutong from Sarikei finished as the second-best team, with four golds and five silvers. They were followed by Sibu’s Kelab Wushu Rajang, who earned three golds and three silvers, and the D-30 Fight Team, which took home one gold and one silver.

Organized by the Wushu Federation of Sarawak, the tournament aimed to promote sanda, provide exposure, finalize the Sukma squad, and uncover new talents. The event featured 11 bouts for sanda athletes on the Sukma long list and eight bouts for junior trainees aged 10 to 12.
