KUCHING (Feb 11) – Sarawak’s roads and hill slopes severely damaged by recent floods require a significant allocation for repair, according to Works Minister Dato Sri Alexander Nanta Linggi. His ministry is currently working on how best to assist the state government in restoring these critical infrastructures.

Speaking to reporters after a courtesy call on Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg at Wisma Bapa Malaysia, Nanta stressed the importance of securing sufficient funds.

Nanta was accompanied by Deputy Works Minister Datuk Seri Ahmad Maslan, Works Ministry secretary-general Datuk Seri Azman Ibrahim, and Public Works Department (JKR) Sarawak director Dr Cassidy Morris during the visit.

Collaboration for Timely Solutions
Earlier, Nanta also held meetings with Deputy Premiers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan to discuss solutions for delayed projects in Sarawak and Sabah. He highlighted the importance of coordination as the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP) begins next year.

“The upcoming Malaysia Plan will focus on coordinating and prioritising key projects needed by Sarawak and Sabah. We shared our feedback on how to apply for funding and implement these projects successfully,” he added.

Nanta said he briefed Abang Johari on various projects under Rolling Plan 5 of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP), including approved projects, ongoing works, and pre-implementation stage projects. These include critical infrastructure such as road and bridge construction, school buildings, and hospitals.

“Our focus is to ensure that these essential projects are executed smoothly for the benefit of the people,” said Nanta. — The Borneo Post
