MIRI, Feb 17 – A man suspected of stealing solar-powered lights from a campsite at Jalan Bakam was arrested by police just 24 hours after being caught on CCTV.
The Miri District Criminal Investigation Department confirmed that the suspect, in his 50s, was detained at a house in Kampung Pusil, Jalan Bakam. Police officers acted swiftly following the release of CCTV footage showing the man stealing solar lights installed on trees around the campsite last Sunday afternoon.

During the arrest, authorities seized several items, including tools believed to have been used in the theft. The suspect is currently under investigation under Section 379 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum sentence of seven years in prison, a fine, or both if found guilty.

The breakthrough in the case came after the campsite’s CCTV cameras recorded clear footage of the suspect in action. The video evidence played a crucial role in assisting law enforcement officers in identifying and tracking down the suspect in a short period.
