KUCHING, Nov 1: A man has been formally charged for his involvement in the arson incident targeting an Immigration Department vehicle along Jalan Pending in Kuching. The arson attack occurred on October 23, 2024, leaving authorities on high alert as they continue their investigation into the case.
Kuching District Police Chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah confirmed in a statement today that the suspect faced charges at the Kuching Sessions Court under Section 435 of the Penal Code, a law that covers offences of mischief by fire. This provision, if convicted, carries a potential prison term of up to 14 years, along with the possibility of an additional fine.
The police have not released the name of the charged individual. However, they are currently focusing on locating another individual connected to the incident, identified as 42-year-old Nasarudin Abu Bakar. He is required to assist in the ongoing investigation into this high-profile case.
ACP Mohd Farhan is urging members of the public who may have information about Nasarudin’s whereabouts to come forward. He highlighted that any tips or insights could greatly aid the investigation.
